From R&D to commercial products

Optitune materials share a common polymer platform.

Therefore it is possible to combine materials to achieve a ‘tuned’ solution to specific requirements; maybe you need an anti-reflective hard coat for outdoor application that is also easy to clean? Or it could be a display device that needs a multi-layer opto-electronic internal surface, combined with a durable and even foldable outer touch panel surface.

Optitune has successfully developed products in cooperation with customers and partners in several application fields. Product features have been developed over time, from low reflectivity and touch features to abrasion resistance and flexibility. The next generation products will include antibacterial and antivirus functionality, as well as so-called thermoformability.

Our materials can be applied at low temperatures under normal atmospheric conditions. Materials are customizable, with variable coating thickness and viscosities that accommodate slot, roller, spin, dip and spray application techniques.

Optitune has held ISO 9001 Quality Management Certification since 2007 and ISO 14001 Environmental Management System Certification since 2016. All our operations are covered by those certifications.

Research capabilities and patented coatings

Optitune’s coating materials expertise and research capability coupled with the world class roll-to-roll pilot production facilities of VTT (Technical Research Centre of Finland) located in the same building, mean Optitune is well positioned pioneering industrial partner in this field.

In its view, Optitune is a forerunner in scientific and technical expertise, knowledge of materials, understanding customers’ product and manufacturing requirements and production knowledge. Optitune’s patented polysiloxane coatings are based on 100+ years of siloxane chemistry know-how. They combine seemingly contradicting properties such as hardness and flexibility while offering an alternative to coatings that are “nearly transparent” with perfectly clear coatings that actually improve the substrates transmission by reducing unwanted reflections.

Flexible, formable and foldable electronic display devices are finally becoming a possibility. In 2015 Optitune anticipated this trend and started to develop a family of products with flexibility and foldability. Optitune already has flexible outer coatings and formable inner layers that enable such features.

In contrast to competitors’ acrylate-based coating offerings, Optitune´s flexible hard coatings are 10 times thinner and actually increase the transmittance of the substrate films due to the nature of Optitune´s polysiloxane technology.

Scalable production

Optitune has developed a unique, customizable coating technology and is able to manufacture for large volumes in house capable of servicing our target markets. Optitune’s own scalable production, patented products and extensive logistics network strengthen its’ competitive position.
